I used to do this every day... But it's not a good idea. It only prevents you from moving on, and if/ when you see them it will be even shittier. Do yourself a favor and try to stop even if it's the last thing you want to do

i, too, used to do this. And whenever we did run into each other I would end up feeling worse about myself and the situation

Try to move on as soon as you can, dwelling on this isn't going to change anything or help you move forward. You'll be amazed how much things can turn around when you start meeting new people.
